There’s nothing like having two pieces of essential equipment in one, and every hunter would love to have a pair of range-finding binoculars. It’s sure a huge advantage while hunting to be able to spot a buck, and with one push of a button know exactly how far away he is. The problem is, many hunters find themselves without the means do so. There is no questioning the quality and performance of the Swarovski EL Range, the Zeiss Victory RF, and the Leica Geovid, but with prices approaching or exceeding $3,000, those top-end pieces of equipment might never be within reach. For years, we’ve had folks constantly asking us if Vortex will ever be coming out with range-finding binoculars. Well… here they are!
Performance:
As far as the glass is concerned, the Fury HD achieves the performance of the best-selling Viper HD, which has one of the best price-to-performance ratios out there. So, with the Fury, you are getting a sweet piece of glass and great rangefinder. The Fury features the range-finding technology of the new Ranger 1500, and can range reflective targets out to 1,600 yards. In mule deer habitat, you can easily range cedar trees, oakbrush, or whatever else would be around a deer at distances exceeding 1,000 yards. It also features angle compensation out to 800 yards. So, it’s a pretty awesome rangefinder for almost all hunting situations.
Ergonomics:
Unlike some of the “big boys” whose control buttons are on the left side of the binocular, the Fury HD has right side controls. If you’re a right-handed bow hunter, then your bow will be in your left hand. If the button is on the left, you’ll probably find yourself wedging your bow between your legs while acquiring a range. Having the button on the right side makes a big difference, and is an important factor in maintaining the idea of being simple, quick and effective.
These binos are very small-framed (5.75” x 5.9”), and as lightweight as any range-finding binocular available (31.8 oz.) The design is also very sleek and well done. Although a little heavier than the average binocular, they are very “normal” feeling.
VIP Warranty:
No matter how good or expensive, we all know that electronic equipment can have some issues from time to time. Over the years, we’ve seen it all the way from the bottom to the top; from $300 to $3,000. Some manufacturers have great warranties, but most exclude their electronic components. Depending on the specific cause of the malfunction, how recently you purchased the item, or, whether or not you registered your purchase in the specified time frame, this could end up costing you big time. Like every other Vortex product, the Fury HD binoculars are covered by an Unlimited, Unconditional, Lifetime warranty that’s fully-transferrable. So, adding to an already great value, you can be confident that in the event anything ever goes wrong, it’ll be fixed promptly or a brand-new pair of range-finding binoculars will be on your doorstep.
At a price point that is very doable for most people ($1,199 Retail), the Fury HD is sure to be a big hit. They are expected to be shipping sometime this summer, so if you want yours before hunting season, be sure to give us a call and get on the list. We already have a large order placed, but we anticipate that they will be gone quickly.
