MuleyCrazy Magazine’s publisher and founder, Ryan Hatch, has been in and around giant mule deer his entire life. Throughout the late 1980’s and during the entire 1990’s, Ryan began filming his adventures of the record-book mule deer that he encountered. Ryan’s passion for monster bucks and his hard work and dedication to the species has resulted in the #1 mule deer hunting DVD’s of all time. However, while he was capturing these monster muleys on film, Ryan always had the idea in the back of his mind for creating a publication that was dedicated entirely to the species many of us love…mule deer! This vision eventually led Ryan to creating MuleyCrazy Magazine and there has been no looking back!

From the number one online publication dedicated entirely to mule deer, to the best mule deer videos on the market, to the best full-color publication on the news stand, the MuleyCrazy name is synonymous anytime that giant mule deer hunting is mentioned.

Mule Deer Photo The Monster Buck We Called MOOSE

I began acquiring points for mule deer in Colorado. Seventeen points later, and after talking with the Colorado Division of Wildlife, we knew that we could draw any tag in the state that we wanted. After contacting several MuleyCrazy friends, a few huntin’ fools, and some local biologists, we decided on a unit and began planning our hunt for the trophy mule deer. When the draw results came out, my brother and I both held late season Colorado mule deer tags in our hands!

After months of planning, talking with many past tag holders and friends, my brother and I were on our way to Colorado to get ourselves a monster buck. Personally, for this retired Beverly Hills Fire Captain, my excitement was hard to contain. Two other hardcore “mule deer perves” (Jonah Stewart and Joe Barrattias) joined us in our quest for the perfect big buck. Jonah and Joe had already had a day to look around for the monser bucks before we arrived and when we saw the excitement on their faces, we knew it was going to be a great hunt! Click here to read more

Mule Deer Photo Big Buck Down

It had taken me eight long years, but I was finally fortunate enough to draw a mule deer tag on the famous Kaibab Plateau of northern Arizona. There was just one problem, although I had hunted mule deer before, I had never hunted the Kaibab. In fact, the truth be told, I had never even been to the Kaibab.

When Fall finally arrived, I couldn’t have been any happier as I had been anticipating this deer hunt for the entire summer. I arrived in camp along with four other lucky hunters who had also drawn mule deer tags. I was paired up with one of Duwane’s guides, Gary Lane, who had experience hunting the big bucks in my unit. Gary and I set out to scout that afternoon and we immediately started seeing some pretty big mule deer. It didn’t take long before I began getting excited. However, Gary told me of a particular big buck that he had found during the previous three days of scouting. He was a true trophy mule deer and our plan was to go to that area on opening day and try to track the monster buck down.Click here to read more

Mule Deer Photo Right Place, Right Time

I am an mule deer fanatic and an avid hunter. As with every hunter, my quest for a monster buck started while waiting for the results of the 2007 Wyoming hunting season. I’m a deputy sheriff so I had to work nights the day before we would get our results . My wife woke me the next morning telling me that we hadn’t drawn our elk tags, but that we did draw our late season deer tags! This was to be my wife’s first mule deer hunt as a hunter which, in itself, added just that much more enjoyment to the season. I have to apply for late season tags as I’m a guide for Tally Ho Outfitters out of Kaycee Wyoming and my early mule deer season is occupied helping others find their big bucks.

I told everyone that my wife would get to shoot her giant mule deer first as she was going to have to get back home to take care of our three girls. My friends teased me by asking that if it was a big buck, would she still get to shoot first. But I stuck to my guns and told them all yes as I had the whole season to hunt for trophy mule deer. Mule Deer Photo Kyle's Monster Buck

My dad had been scouting big bucks all summer and had seen many nice mule deer. Some of the big bucks he had scouted were 30-plus inch mule deer, and there was one non-typical that looked like a monster buck! Dad had scouted these mule deer all summer long and kept his eye on them all the way until two weeks before the deer season. However, the closer it got to opening day, the less my dad was seeing the big bucks and the day before season, he didn’t see any mule deer at all. Click here to read more
